#oh no no that little smile and laugh he does #he knew what john was going to say #deep down he knew no matter how convicing he managed to be that john wasn’t going to buy it #john was going to support him regardless and never once think he was a liar #or a fake #it was going on before all of this started — when john was defending him against newspapers that hadn’t even turned on him yet #the one person who would always have his back and he’s proved it time and time again #and he’s proving it here right now before sherlock has to lie to him and leave him behind #and that fucking little smile #that broken laugh #it screams of how much he’s hurting which is why i’ll never believe he was faking how emotional he was #and that the tears weren’t real #the fake parts of this were his assertions that he was a fake #of course you can believe whatever you want about how he’s acting here but it just fucking gets to me #because he’s so jesus he’s so emotional with elements of terrified and panicked in there #he doesn’t want to leave john #he doesn’t want to leave any of them #and yet he’s going to go right over the edge of that building and ‘die’ #right in front of john and leave them all behind to do what he knows he has to
But not just a marksman, a fighter. His hands couldn’t have shaken at all, so clearly he’s acclimatized to violence. He didn’t fire until I was in immediate danger, though, so strong moral principle. You’re looking for a man probably with a history of military service and nerves of steel.
